Pages on Simpedia are formatted using a special code called WikiML. Using this code, you can format text in almost any style, and add things like images and links to your page. A few simple codes are shown below:

Headings and Subheadings

Headings are made by placing a number of '=' signs either side of a title. The top level heading is simply =Example Heading=, and appears the same size as the article title. The next level down is ==Example Subheading==, then ===Example Subheading 2===, etc.

Text Formatting

 • Bold Example Text = Bold Example Text
 • Italic Example Text = Italic Example Text
 • Bold Italic Example Text = Bold Italic Example Text
 • <font color="red">Red Example text</font> = Red Example text
 • <font face="Comic Sans MS">Example Text</font> = Example Text
 • <big>Big Example Text</big> = Big Example Text
 • <small>Small Example Text</small> = Small Example Text

 • Spelling is not an optional extra.
 • Deleting other people's hard work is not nice.
 • Chatspeak is not to be used on articles. It can only be used on talk pages or user pages.

Images

First you need to upload an image, a fairly simple feat, which can be achieved by clicking on upload file in the bottom left hand corner of any page (in the toolbox). Once that is done. Copy the image name and go to the page where you want the picture to be.

The simplest way to get the picture there is to use the button at the top of the editing box that looks like a picture. Simply click on it, delete 'example.jpg' image and replace with the name of the picture you want to add. This will give you a large picture at the top center of the screen or section you are working on. You can add it to a page using: . You can change various properties within the code to add a caption, change the size, etc.

 • shrinks the image so it is 128 pixels wide.
 • puts the image into a frame on the left hand side of the page, with a caption below it.
 • creates a 48 pixel wide thumbnail of the image on the right hand side of the page, with a caption below it.
Note: You cannot add a caption if the image is not in a frame or thumbnail.

Links

You can add a link to any page on Simpedia on any other page simply by typing the title of the page enclosed in square brackets, i.e. Page Title, which reads as Page Title. To link to an external site, use , which reads as example. Using just the URL or page title will display the URL or the page title you typed in when you save the page. To display different text when you save the page, use | then the text you want to display for Simpedia links, and to do it for external links you just leave a space between the url and the text you want to display.

Categories

Categories are extremely helpful when searching for a specific term or finding out what pages haven't been written yet. As such, pages should be categorized while they are being written (and new categories made, if appropriate. To categorize a page, use this: (Note: This is just an example) should be used at the bottom of the page. Pages can have multiple categories and categories themselves can be categorized to form sub categories.

Stubs

A stub is a page that is very short and that the author feels can be added to. To flag a page as a stub, type this in while editing: stub. This can be used at the bottom of the page.

Redirects

Sometimes pages are written twice under slightly different headings- for example 'Aspirations' and 'Wants and Fears' would be about the same thing. This is a common mistake however it makes navigating the site difficult. The pages might be about the same content but have different comments. The advisable thing to do would be to put unused points of one page into the other, and delete the content of the now obsolete page and programming it to re-direct so any existing links to that page are directed to the new one. The phrase for redirecting is #REDIRECT pagename and hopefully the page will be re-directed.

Colors

Use the color scheme depicted in Official:Palette.

And don't forget! All of this is conveniently placed in the edit toolbox!
