On Sims 2, some people may find it hard to get a husband/wife, but after reading this it will hopefully be easier. I recommend you have Nightlife before you try doing this.

Finding Someone
Finding someone can be hard. Try to find someone who you quite like, (Note: Before you start trying to date Sims, make sure you have a best friends with them first. Or at least just friends.) then start flirting with them.
Flirting
At first, there are only a few options available, but the more times you are successful, the more options you get. For quicker flirting, call the Gypsy Matchmaker and buy lots of Love Potion 8.5's. Hugging and small kisses help as well. If you see a heart above the Daily Relationships bar, it means that the Sim has a crush on you. This is good.
Engagement
Keep on flirting until you see the option Propose... . Click on it and it will say Engagement. Then you see a cutscene where your Sim offers an Engagement ring to the other Sim. The other Sim will only except if they still have a crush on you and they are best friends, or otherwise they refuse and your Sim has a terrible memory of that moment.
Marriage
Engagement dosen't mean that you are legally a couple, it means they promise to be married some day. You can get married straight after an accepted Engagement occurs by clicking on Propose... again, but this time it says Marriage. Click on it and they instantly gat married without any wedding planning. Or you can have a Wedding Ceremony. You just announce over the phone by clicking on Party... and click on what you think is right. Then you organize it. Put in everything a wedding has but leave the arch till later. When you build the arch the marriage I think should begin. Then enjoy the party and congratulations!
Party
After the wedding, if you have chosen to have a party then you will need to make it a success for you, your new partner, and your friends. The Party Scenario is the same as normal. You need to talk and entertain your guests, make sure there is food and also make sure that everyone is happy for a great start to your marriage.
Honeymoons

Provided you have Bon Voyage, you can book a honeymoon. When you are engaged, go on the phone and book it. Then marry your Sim how you want and soon enough they will be whisked away to their destination.
