The HUD is the Heads Up Display. It gives you all the sim info, the things to buy and build, and the save option, just to name a few options.

This is where all the unplayed families and families that move out go.

This is where all the unused houses and houses that have been moved to the lots and houses bin go.

From here you can decorate your neighborhood with rocks, special effects, boats, planes, and much more. Notice in the thumbnail that the "plains" decoration in the background has a box with a rainbow on it signifying that it is a decoration. This also doubles as a grip for when you want to move the decoration.

This is where you can view and edit the story of the neighborhood.
