It wasn't our fault! [site] - posted by Sam
Apologies for the recent downtime; it was apparently caused by an attack on our hosting provider, which forced them to change the address of our website, rendering the URL useless. If you're reading this message, it's back up and working as normal (although it may take a while to propagate the changes across the entire web).

The Future! [Site] - posted by Sam
The future is here! The Simpedia developers have disappeared, leaving the site in the more than capable hands of its volunteer administrators. But we hear a rumor from time to time of a top-secret project... Okay, who are we kidding? We're preparing the new site, in time to be unveiled with the release of The Sims 3. So where do you come in? Well, for one thing, we need you to tell us what you want from the new site - if you have any ideas, let us know at http://simpedia.co.uk/alphaforum. We're also looking for talented young PHP and Javascript coders to help out with some of our more ambitious projects - if you think you have what it takes, email me!

Bye [Site] - posted by EdK
I won't be editing, fixing or helping out on Simpedia for a while. =(

Image bug sorted =D [Site] - posted by EdK
It appears when we got the site back online, directory and file permissions weren't retained and the MediaWiki app didn't have access to any of the upload locations. I'm not sure how the temp directory escaped this bug, but the storage and thumbnail directories are write-enabled now, and the weird error messages on image uploads/views are gone. =)

I just deleted your work [Site] - posted by EdK
I just wiped the files from the development wiki, so I could upload the update which is uploading now. However, it would appear all the data has been lost, I'll try to get it back if anyone cares that much.

New download stuffs! [Sim] - posted by ed, a slightly elated dev
Courtesy of Baldwin, we now have a proper fileserver at http://db.simpedia.co.uk/file/browse... When I've automated something, I'll let you know, in the meantime I can upload files there manually.

Test :D [Admin] - posted by your mum
The blog system doesn't use session IDs as far as I know, so just a non-hack post could work (I did the other one by editing the DB)

Argh! [Sim] - posted by an exasperated dev called ed
Something's up with our server - not my fault. It seems to keep resetting sessions, so if the wiki tells you it "could not process your edit", that's what it is. This could be a deliberate attack or just something wrong with the server, not much we can do either way.

New logo :D [Site] - posted by EdK
I'd like to thank Supuhstar on behalf of the entire Development team, for creating the new Simpedia logo which is now live on the site. Administrators can view other entries here, and you're all invited to design a logo, badge or anything else you fancy for Simpedia. We'll do our best to use it :)

Forums [Site] - posted by that guy...
The Forums are now up and running smoothly, and if you were considering registering on the phpBB (unlikely, I'll admit) you should be using them instead, as they're the official Simpedia forum now.

13th September - Software upgrade and bugfixes [Site] - posted by Sam
We're now running a fully featured copy of MediaWiki 1.11, as opposed to the alpha testing version we had previously. We've also fixed all the issues with images, as far as I can tell, so feel free to delete all those images it wouldn't let you delte before!

ATTENTION all sysops [Site] - posted by EdK

6th September - Stuf dats bin lyk, goin on [Site] - posted by Sam
There's been quite a lot going on over the last week or two, and consequently I haven't had time to post as much as I'd like to. Just to give you an update on what's been going on:

  • The downloads pages have been given a makeover - they may still look the same, but the code has been redesigned and improved, so hopefully everything now works.
  • A new sysop election system has been implemented - if you're interested, please take a look at Simpedia:Sysop.
  • Simpedia download contests have been rescheduled, and will now be happening once every 2 months, as far as I can remember.
  • The server is now much more reliable and faster, and the downtime should be significantly less.
  • All bugs are now fixed and all aspects of the site are now working.

28th August - 20,000 Visits! [Site] - posted by Nathan
We've done it! The main page has had 20,000 visits. We assume that most of them is Sam, Ed and Nathan but more recently more users have been logging on and adding their info to Simpedia. We hope that by 50,000 visits we'll have more active users!

[permalink]20th August - First Download Contest Results [Site] - posted by Nathan
Well then?! 15 of you voted in the first download contest but we have the final results. With 38% of the vote Toxxic is your winner. We'd like to let you all know that you can now submit your entries for September! All entries accepted though we'd like to remind all download artists that one of their other creations will be added as their entry for September if they fail or do not make a new item for the contest. All download artists MUST enter!

Tutorial: Namespace [Site] - posted by EdK
Please remember Tutorial: pages are not tutorials on making pages, editing Simpedia etc. but for pages helping other users to play the game. For tutorials on Simpedia, we have the Help: and Simpedia: namespaces.

8th August - Download Contest [Site] - posted by EdK
The voting for the Download contest is open here. From now on, any modifications to the download pages in question will result in that page's votes being reset.

Download creation is working! [Site] - posted by Sam
Finally, I've managed to create a working template for adding downloads, with a reasonably usable user interface, which is always good. Go to Download:New to see it. And please, nobody except Ed change it... that would be annoying.
In other News...

  • We are nearing the 20,000 hits mark, but I'm guessing most of that was me.
  • Image thumbnails are broken.
  • 110mb keeps throwing up random errors about "exec".
  • FTP is down.
  • If we could move to a better server, we would, but we can't, because there isn't one.

That's all from me.

Bon Voyage [Sim] - posted by Iconofroses
Yesterday EA Games released a few more tidbits about the upcoming expansion pack "Bon Voyage." In addition to the three destinations our Sims will have access to, they'll also be able to take tours, buy or find unique items (hunting for buried treasure actually sounds like fun), and be able to select what kind of travel accommodations they stay at. Hey, even our poor Sims will be able to travel apparently.

A video was also released and I have to admit, this expansion pack is looking better and better! From the video alone our Sims will be able to log roll, throw axes for fun, learn new dances, meditate (and float apparently!), use a wishing well that glows green (I'm already dreading the negative outcomes), build sandcastles, and a whole lot more.

Head here to view the video and get the full details.

3rd August - Updates [Site] - posted by Nathan
You may have noticed that the Big Brother Project has been cancelled. We may either remake this or cancel it completely. We also have a new download artist, AmyMercury1. She has created a few hacks for The Sims 2 which will be listed in the next few days. Also, look out for the Simpedia Download Contest coming on Monday 6th August!

29th July - The Sims Project

The Sims Project is a project on Simpedia that consist of making, editiing, and perfecting The Sims related articles. The reason this project was started by Cowplant was so the sims 1 had it's spot on the site, seeing as how it is a sims game. The project will start by finishing the sims superstar page, then we'll move on to all the other expansions, base games, etc. Then prominent sims, pets, townies, features, etc. Finally, it will be finished off with articles about objects in the game, and what expansion they come with, etc. Leave a message at Cowplant's talk page to help out, etc. The project starts now, so get started, and remember to have fun.

29th July - Simpedia Download Contest

We now have 2 entries for our Download Contest. The winner will have a link to their creation placed on the Main Page and a link to a page hosting all their other creations for a week. Currently we have entries from Supuhstar and Sarkissian. We are also waiting for entries from Toxxic and Nathan. The links will be posted soon.
