it's like this for a reason.
Available to users worldwide since the 16th of April 2007 at 23:16 UTC, Simpedia is a free resource for Sims 2 users. We aim to provide a huge editable online database of Sims 2 help and information, as well as personal spaces where you can write reviews, host tutorials, and form an online community with other users.
Basically I set it up so you have:
- Downloads
- Buy Mode
- Seating, surfaces etc...
- Build Mode
- Empty lots, Occupied lots, walls, floors, fences etc
- Body Shop
- Skintones, makeup etc...
- Programs
- Buy Mode
Purpose of this was so we can use <nicecategorylist> at Download:Contents and other download pages, to list downloads. The category list created by the tag can show all the downloads within the category on the contents page, but the categories needed better names and better organisation for this system to work... so... yeah.

- If you volunteer to place our leaderboard on your site (the largest banner), then we will dedicate a whole page to your web site and it will be added to the list of articles which are occasionally featured on the Main Page.

Banner Exchange
Each week we exchange banners with a different Sim fansite. They display our linked site banner on their site's homepage, and we display their linked banner on our Main Page. This helps to bring visitors to both sites without the need for advertisements or search engines. To apply with your site, email affiliates@simpedia.co.uk and attatch your site banner (preferably 728x90px), and we will respond with our site banner. Please note that the banner must be placed in a reasonably visible position; you can see where we will place yours simply by taking a look at our main page.When creating an article, please make sure you follow these simple guidelines, to avoid multiple redirects, and pages being moved back and forth by arguing users.
- Only the first letter of the article name should be capitalised, unless it is the name of an expansion pack or official title.
- No colons should be used in page names, except for prefixes. The names of the expansion packs do not contain colons, therefore please do not use them.
- A page should be named relevantly to its content - I just deleted a page entitled "Expansion Packs" which contained a section on "Stuff Packs"... Last time I checked, stuff packs weren't expansion packs. Also, if you are writing an article on The Sims 2 Pets, don't include information about the actual pets - create a separate article for that.

Simpedia operates a strict attribtution policy. Although all content on this site is released into the Public Domain, and can be used by anyone, there are rules you must follow when creating or editing articles. These rules are in place to prevent arguments between users, and to try and maintain an open source of information.
Articles
An "article" is defined as a page with no prefix before the page name.
Articles form the main content of Simpedia, and are collaborative projects by all Simpedia users. Any user can add more information to an article, and has the right to change it if they feel it is incorrect in any way. It is completely unacceptable to state anywhere that you "wrote" an article, or specify any sections which you contributed (however you may wish to include a short section on your userpage stating your contributions, in which case it is acceptable to say that you contributed to a particular article). It is also unacceptable to sign your name in any form within an article.
It is also unacceptable to express personal opinion or biased points of view in an article; it should contain only verifiable facts. If you wish to commentate on or discuss a particular subject please do so in the forums or on the discussion page.
Reviews
A "review" is defined as a page with the prefix "Review:"
When writing a review it is acceptable to express personal opinions, and also to sign your name in the title ("...by Yourname") and at the end of the article. You should not use images or code when signing a review, except to add a basic link to your userpage or talk page if you wish. It is acceptable to revert other users edits of your review, and you may also request protection if you wish.
Tutorials
A "tutorial" is defined as a page with the prefix "Tutorial:"
Tutorials should be attributed to their original author. You should request protection for your tutorial, so that it does not get vandalized or removed, or edited. The talk page will remain open for users to request any changes or updates.
Download Pages
A "download page" is defined as a page with the prefix "Download:"
Download pages should be protected once they are complete. Currently we cannot provide user specific protection, so you will have to request any edits to your download once it is complete. Any updates to your download file should be referred to us so that we can update the database.
Cheat Pages
A "cheat page" is defined as page with the prefix "Cheat:"
The same rules apply as for general articles.
Remember!
Under NO circumstances can any content be claimed as your own once it has been released onto Simpedia (although as stated above other users do not have permission to edit your reviews, tutorials or download pages). All content on the site is released into the Public Domain and is the property of the community - that is to say, everyone. For more information, see Official:Copyrights.- If you place a text link to our site on your affiliates page, we will place a similar text link on our affiliates page.

Site Content
Perhaps the most important of all the copyright terms on Simpedia is that the usage of any Simpedia content will apply this license (including this clause) to your content/creation/product as well. Once an article has been published on Simpedia it is released into the public domain and is no longer the property of the person who contributed it. It is illegal to publish any content which appears on Simpedia under your own name, or to accept payment for the use of any Simpedia content.
Exemptions
The following are the only exceptions to some or all of the above rules, unless otherwise stated by the site developers
- Reviews and tutorials may bear the name of the writer, although they agree to release their work into the public domain.
- Images and other files which have been uploaded to the site remain the property of the creator, provided that a notice is displayed on the image page. All images bearing no copyright information will be assumed to be released into the public domain, unless it can be proved that they are copyrighted elsewhere and that the copyright owner has given permission for them to be uploaded to Simpedia. Images which have been uploaded without the permission of the copyright holder will be removed, where possible.
Copyright Violation
We try to maintain a site that is free of copyright violations. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you could follow these guidelines:
- Do not submit work you know is copyrighted.
- If you know who holds the copyright, ask for permission. Respect their decision.
- If you don't know the details of the copyright, use your judgement, remembering that by law, you may be commiting an offence.
- Do not submit work you do not want modified. This is a wiki, anyone can edit it.
- Do not upload images found on a search engine unless you have located the copyright information for these images.
- If you have the copyright information, please link to it.
- Do not sign pages or attribute them to yourself on anyone else in any way. See Official:Attribution
- Do not give credit to any user, yourself included, for any article, unless it is agreed you may or Official:Attribution allows it.
- Do not give credit to any user, yourself included, for any article, unless it is agreed you may or Official:Attribution allows it.

Naming Articles
When creating an article, please make sure you follow these simple guidelines, to avoid multiple redirects, and pages being moved back and forth by arguing users.
- Only the first letter of the article name should be capitalised, unless it is the name of an expansion pack or official title.
- No colons should be used in page names, except for prefixes. The names of the expansion packs do not contain colons, therefore please do not use them.
- A page should be named relevantly to its content
- Tutorials are NOT for tutorials on Simpedia but on playing the game.
Do NOT add a trademark, copyright or registered symbol in ANY page title for ANY reason. It will be moved and the original page deleted irretrievably. In addition, EdK will get you.
Adult Content
It is forbidden to place any adult content or content which might not be suitable for younger viewers on the main site.
We define adult content as one or more of the following:
- Sexually explicit
- Gory - i.e. content that would give The Sims 2 an 18 certificate
Neutral Point of View
When writing an article it is not acceptable to express personal opinions or unverified statements. If you are unsure of any details on a subject, please discuss them on the article's talk page. The only exception to this rule is if you are writing a review. Reviews should contain opinions of the expansion pack or site they are reviewing, to help visitors get an idea of what other people think.

Welcome to the Sims Spot! Soon to be the best site for TS2 news, downloads and chat!
That's the welcome message on TSS. It's a quickly growing site and has many features including polls, forums, reviews, downloads, lengthy articles and various downloads. It also has a shop.

Go There Now! →Simpedia is controlled and managed by a team of administrators with varying levels of authority. There are currently 8 registered administrators on this site.
Sysops
Sysops are the general site administrators. They manage the site to an extent, and can do such things as protecting or unprotecting pages, and editing protected pages. They have a responsibility to uphold the site rules and policies. As of July 2007, they may also assign the Patroller right to users.
Currently the following users have Sysop priveleges:
Developers
Developers are the main governing body of the site. They can grant Sysop rights to users, and they help to decide on site policies and official content. Currently the following users have Developer rights:
Technical Administrator
The Simpedia Technical Administrator (also known as the Root Administrator; internally the rootAdmin) has unrivalled access to all areas of the site. He has access to the site server and the database, and also has control over all blogging features, the forums, and various other additional features of the site. Currently, the Technical Administrator is EdK
Content Administrator
The Simpedia Content Administrator (a.k.a. The Boss) is in charge of the entire site, and has supreme authority over all decisions and all site content. However, he holds the same site priveleges as the Technical Administrator, so the title itself is essentially honorary. Currently Sam is "The Boss" of the site.Many users choose to add userboxes to their user pages. These boxes are arranged in a tower-like formation to give visitors information on the user. Simpedia works using the same complex codes as Wikipedia to make userboxes. To arrange your userboxes in a tower at the right of your page, simply type "{{userboxtop}}", insert your chosen userbox codes on seperate lines, then type "|}" at the end of the list. If you think of another userbox which you would like added, feel free to request it on the discussion page.

Customizing Userboxes
Changing the Style of your Userboxes
You can use codes to change the color of your userboxes, though in most situations you shouldn't. There are 4 styles available currently, though more may be added for special events etc.
Default Style:
{{userbox|style=1}}
| This is an example Userbox. |
White image placeholder:
{{userbox|style=2}}
| This is an example Userbox. |
White text box:
{{userbox|style=3}}
| This is an example Userbox. |
All white:
{{userbox|style=4}}
| This is an example Userbox. |
Categorisation
Many userboxes will add your userpage to a category if you add |categorise to your code:
{{userbox|Sysop|categorise}}
would produce this, but also add the page to a category:
| This user is a Simpedia Sysop. |
Creating Custom Userboxes
It is possible to create custom userboxes - if there is something unique about you which you feel you need a userbox to say, for example if you play The Sims 2 using your toes because you have lost the use of your fingers, feel free to create a custom userbox. To create a custom userbox, use the following code:
{{userbox|Userbox text|Imagename.extension}}
For example:
{{userbox|This user plays '''[[The Sims 2]]''' with their toes because they have lost the use of their fingers|Toes.png}}
Would give:
| This user plays The Sims 2 with their toes because they have lost the use of their fingers. |
You can also categorise a custom userbox by adding the category -
{{userbox|This user plays '''[[The Sims 2]]''' with their toes because they have lost the use of their fingers|Toes.png|Users who play The Sims 2 despite paralysed/lost fingers}}
Would render the following:
| This user plays The Sims 2 with their toes because they have lost the use of their fingers. |
Simpedia is a Wiki and cannot be subject to very strict filtering due to the number of users in relation to admins. However, there will always be debate on whether we should allow words such as "fuck" on the site, so I've decided to close down discussion, except perhaps privately in the top levels of authority.
Offensive language of any kind is allowed on the website, but not to put down other members of the community and not unless it is relevant.
For example, if we were to have a debate on this and I said, "The word fuck IS allowed" you would be allowed to quote me on that, but you couldn't say, "That fucking wanker EdK said it was allowed!" because that would be putting me down. Well, in theory.
Now for the other big thing - nudity. I can't think of any reason to put naked pictures of real people on Simpedia, but there are probably obscure reasons for naked Sims. But I don't give a damn:
Offensive language of any kind is allowed on the website, but not to put down other members of the community and not unless it is relevant. Naked/Adult Sim pictures are not allowed, unless the skintone and mesh have no genitals.Template:SP:NC
