EasyCheat is a small, easy to use tool for entering cheats into The Sims 2. It was created by Sam and EdK, and is the first official Simpedia program to be released. It was created using an open source developement environment called AutoHotkey, and is a system tray application that responds to keystrokes to send cheat codes to the game. It actually opens the cheat box, types a cheat, and then closes the box again - but it's so fast you probably won't notice it, and it's much faster than typing them in manually.

Installing EasyCheat

You can download EasyCheat here. The official installer package you download will simply contain "Install.exe", which will install EasyCheat and all required files to your computer if you have an active internet connection (though it's easy to obtain a zip - see this info). It will automatically download all the required files, and it doesn't modify your registry or your Sims 2 installation in any way, since it's a completely independent program.

Running EasyCheat

After EasyCheat is installed, you can run it from the start menu (or you can create your own shortcuts elsewhere). The first time you run it, you will see a welcome messagebox, but after that it will load silently and simply place an icon in your system tray. If you use it a lot, you can set it to load on startup, since it uses a minimal amount of system resources and is very quick to load.

Customizing EasyCheat

Double clicking on the EasyCheat system tray icon (or right clicking and choosing "Options") will bring up the main EasyCheat options dialog. From this screen you can view your EasyCheat settings, and customize your cheats and shortcut keys.

The "Options" tab of this screen simply displays the expansion packs which EasyCheat has detected on your machine, and options to reset your custom cheats and EasyCheat configuration. However, if you select the "Custom Cheats" tab, you will see a list of cheats and their shortcut keys which you can edit. You can enter any game cheat, except cheats which require parameters such as familyfunds or roofslope (we plan to integrate support for these in a later release). For each cheat, you must specify a shortcut key by clicking in the shortcut key box and pressing your chosen keys. You can use any shortcut key, but you should never use Ctrl+Shift+C since this will disable cheats in your game while the program is running (or possibly just break the program, we haven't tested it), but you may use shortcut keys that are already in use by other programs as EasyCheat will simply override them.
Once you have finished entering your cheats, click the "Save" button to store the cheats and shortcut keys for later use, or simply press OK to save them for that session only. You can then use the shortcut keys in the game, as described below.

Using EasyCheat

While The Sims 2 is running, pressing any of the shortcut keys defined in the "Custom Cheats" tab of EasyCheat will bring up the cheat console, enter the code attached to that shortcut key, and then exit the cheat box. Please note that the shortcut keys will not work if the cheat console is already open. If you experience any problems whilst using EasyCheat with The Sims 2 (whilst testing we identified a bug which sometimes causes the "Connect to The Sims 2 Online" box to appear when entering a cheat, but we hope this is now fixed), please contact sam@simpedia.co.uk.

Extra Features

Currently EasyCheat only contains one extra feature - the Simpedia game launcher. This nifty gadget built into EasyCheat allows you to launch your most recent Sims 2 expansion pack in windowed mode or fullscreen at any time, simply by right clicking on the program icon in the system tray and choosing "Launch The Sims 2™". For those of you who regularly play The Sims 2 and don't like icons cluttering your desktop, or those who sometimes use windowed and sometimes fullscreen mode, this is an invaluable tool - simply add EasyCheat to your startup programs and right click on the icon whenever you want to play.
