[edit] Info

[edit] Travel to Three Dream Destinations

Each location offers unique landscapes and local residents, such as the Fire Dancer and Ninja, for your Sims to meet and learn from. Try local cuisine and admire cultural landmarks as your Sims explore these new locales.

[edit] Send Your Sims on Tours

Glass bottom boat rides, adventurous van tours, and other excursions are fun new activities for your Sims, but there may be some surprises in store!

[edit] Buy or Find Unique Items

Shop for unique objects found only on your Sims' travels, including rare jewellery they can wear or take home as gifts. Stumble upon hidden locations, collect shells on the beach, or dig up treasure.

[edit] Stay at New Travel Accommodations

Splurge on the luxury suite for your Sims or save Simoleons and choose a more cosy lodging. Your Sims will enjoy the comfort of room service, get pampered at the spa, and more.

[edit] Starting a vacation

To start a vacation, simply use the telephone or computer. The "Trip Planner" screen will open where you can choose the duration of the holiday, the maximum is 7 days, when and who is going and choose between 3 different price ranges. Note that you can also invite friends which then will travel with you. When you arive, you can choose a hotel room or buy a vacation house. You recieve a tourist guide with things to do.

[edit] During the vacation

New kinds of Talent Badges have been added. For example if you learned to hula dance, this badge will be filled in. You will be able to excavate and have the possibility of finding a map that will take you to a hidden treasure. Souvenirs, either bought or found can be taken home to display there (or just sell them). Jewellery can be worn or used as a gift.

[edit] Sims

Sims can have piercings, rings, necklaces and bracelets and you can even choose on which side you want it. All Sims ages can go on vacation except for babies. Pregnant Sims can go on vacation but don't give birth during the vacation.

[edit] Activities

You can sunbathe but you can be burned so don't forget the suncream.
The Sims will be able to enjoy three types of massages, and they will be able to learn to do them.
There is a helicopter tour however they can have a helicopter accident.
Sims can do games like axe-throwing and there is a tree trunk where Sims can make romantic inscriptions.
You can learn 4 types of dances: Hula-hula, the fire dance, tai-chi and the dance of the mountains.
The beach comes with real waves and Sims can swim in the water. You can build sandcastles and look for shells.

[edit] Misc

Even if you have OFB, you cannot run a hotel
You can unlock new building options (like the Asian roofs) by visiting the vacation resorts.
There are several new types of flooring.
You can change rooms/hotels during the vacation.
A good or bad holiday will affect their family life and career.

[edit] Pirate ship

It's one huge object where Sims can climb and play in. The boat has a ghost and you need to make him laugh; curing his torment. Then it will teach you a song with the accordion and you will be able to teach it your friends.

[edit] Vacation home

You can send your sims on a vacation, but if you do, and your sim spends a lot of time outside, you must be carefull, because he/she might get sunburned (unfortunately, you cannot put sun cream on your sim, for there is no such thing on The Sims 2). If your sim does, however, get sunburned, there is nothing you can do for them except making sure that they sleep and take baths, for being sure getting plenty of rest will help your sim recover a lot faster.

[edit] Bug

When the product was launched it contained a serious bug. From the user's persepctive the game will seem to run correctly at first. After a while he or she will experience progressively increasing loading times until system limitations made it impossible to run the game.

The problem is that every time the player enters a business or vacation lot an NPC spawns and a character file is created. This results in incresing amount of characer files that will slow down the game until it can no longer run.

The bug is thus insidious and the problem created is so far irrecoverable with anything less than a complete reinstallment, completely resetting the game and resulting in the total loss of all progress thus far. Destroying the extra character files is no solution since it is likely to cause the program to refer to files that no longer exists.

The bug has now been rectified by an official Maxis patch, and it is recommended that all users of Bon Voyage install this.

[edit] Bugfixes

Complete list of changes instated by patch released on The Sims 2 Official Website:

Note: Not all fixes will take effect on existing The Sims 2 Bon Voyage saved games. If you have an existing lot, Sim, object or neighborhood that does not seem to be improved by this patch, we recommend that you replace the affected object, or create either a new family, lot or neighborhood, depending on what is affected by the bug.
  1. Sims will no longer have the option to call vacation service NPCs after acquiring the business perk "Head for Numbers" which was causing a crash.
  2. Sims will no longer have the option to "Call Taxi" using their cell phones if they have driven to the community lot with an own-able vehicle which was causing a crash.
  3. If the Sim misses the shuttle, it will no longer return to a vacation lot without the Sim at the end of the vacation. Sometimes, this caused the vacation lot to become unusable.
  4. Game will no longer create new vacation NPCs each time a lot is visited which was causing many issues due to character file overload. Any existing extra NPCs will be unlinked and their character files greatly reduced in size.
  5. Periodic Events Controller will no longer loop twice per hour through each neighbor which was causing extreme lag on certain machines.
  6. Autonomous water-balloon and snowball fights have been tuned so the interaction will occur less frequently.
