[comment on this] The Boolprop page
I had originally intended it include info on all the boolprop cheats, hence its original name. Why did you change that? User:Supuhstar/sig
- "The Boolprop Cheat" usually refers to the "Testing Cheats" cheat, which is just one cheat. The reason Cheat:Contents/boolprop redirs there is that TestingCheats was the page the red referred to. We could make a Cheat:Boolprop page for Boolprops in general.

[comment on this] The Sims 1 Project
I feel that the sims 1 project is a major thing seeing as how all the articles made so far are sims 2 related, so I think it should have some spot on the front page so people can see it all the time, and not just today. If you don't mind. :-) --Cowplant 22:29, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Do we need a page? I figured you could just use the desc. I put in the site news section. I could make an article on it I suppose. --Cowplant 22:49, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll work on the edit tools but we don't need international characters, and they make up most of that toolbox. --EdK (talk) (email) 08:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Supuhstar, I copied the toolbar from Wikipedia then removed all the things I thought we didn't need. If there's any tools you use a lot or particularly want, feel free to tell me, but we're not having the amount Wikipedia has, it's insane.
Ed, my talk page was the right place to post it, since I created the toolbar.

- Why on earth would we need all those characters? The only non standard character I can see us using is the Simolean sign, which you'll notice I included in the original toolbar. I also included all the bits of WikiML I personally use most often and take longest to type, under the assumption that other people would have the same problems. The amount of times you're going to need to use a Å or Ÿ in a page on Simpedia, it would be simpler just to use your own Character Map. Supuhstar's list is a little more sensible, but to be honest I think what we have is enough. Sam "The Boss"

[comment on this] New Sysop System
We've recently implemented a new system, whereby all Sysops have to present an Sysopship request, which will then be reviewed by the community and finally the developers. Since this applies to both old and new sysops, if you wish to continue your post you must submit your application within the next week. Please read Simpedia:Sysop for more information. I make regular edits to it, and your replacing it doesn't really help much at all. And I don't really care that you track all the changes - it's my site primarily, and I say, make backups, and make a note of any changes you make, or else get a SharePoint server. Sam "The Boss"

[comment on this] Nopls.
I'm not angry or anything (=]) but please, don't do anything to the alpha wiki without discussing it. I think the first step ought to be to alert the main contributors from the original Simpedia to the existence of the alpha forum, and assemble a group of users there. Then, we ought to discuss what usergroups we're going to have and who will be in them. Feel free to create a spare database and make a test Wiki if you want, but absolutely nothing is to be done to the actual alpha wiki without discussing it first and nothing is to be discussed before we have people to discuss it with. I understand that you've got extensions etc. which you want to implement, but rememeber that you're not the only one who gets a say in which extensions we use and their coding etc, especially since we'll hopefully have a reasonably sizable team of alpha helper developer admin people. And even you aren't allowed to use the new wiki for testing. Ye be no exception to yer own rules... make sure all your extensions (even ones you didn't code yourself) work perfectly before actually implementing them. --Sam "The Boss"

- I told you, I used old code in the config =) I can write some more if you like, but I'd rather concentrate on making the site work first. EdK (email) 16:14, 18 February 2008 (CET)
- The point of making a new site is not to use old code. And MediaWiki does work. Just not quite how we want it to. Which is why we need to discuss how we want it to work and what we want it to do. With other people. So let's delete the Dev Wiki and work first of all (like I said above) on getting together a team of founders to form a discussion group. And by the way, abuse of the renameuser right (which shouldn't even exist, since you didn't propose the addition of the extension [let alone the actual Wiki] on the alpha forum). Like I said, I'm not angry (since it can all be undone quite easily), but please, do this one simple thing I'm asking? I know it's kind of annoying having to get approval for every single extension or change to the Wiki, but it's for the best (and on sites like Wikpedia it's taken for granted that things like the Main Page or the extensions will not be changed without considerable discussion and input from a panel of users. Oh and by the way, if you could code a plugin for some text editor (or even a standalone new editor) which logged all changes to localsettings etc. to a database on Simpedia via PHP (muchly similar to the history features in MW) I would consider you a God above all Gods. Except that you would be the only God. Since I don't believe in any others. Ah well. Sam "The Boss"

- I used old code because you said new users wouldn't be able to edit, so instead of rolling out some more code I just copied the old lot. When I've finished everything else I'm doing, I'll write some more. If it helps, think of that as a private alpha (alpha stuff is usually private) and the "Redesign" wiki as a beta. EdK (email) 18:20, 18 February 2008 (CET)
- I already said, I'm fine with the idea of alpha users (i.e. you and me). But since you've disabled account creation anyway, I don't see that we need an alpha usergroup. Anyway, the bit I have a problem with is the other usergroups you've made. Partly becuase I want to know exactly which rights each usergroup has, but mainly because the usergroups, just like everything else, need to be discussed with everyone. Anyhow, let's get a fresh install on the Dev Wiki, and the ONLY thing you may do to it is to create an Administrator account (username Administrator, password the main Simpedia password [you know it], email administrator@simpedia.co.uk) and an account for yourself, called either Ed or EdK, and then disable account creation and editing by unregistered users ($wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false; and $wgGroupPermissions['*']['createaccount'] = false;). There be no need for any "old code", since it did things which we currently don't need to do. And if we ever do need to do them (which I confess is likely), we will discuss it thoroughly on the alpha forum beforehand. OK? Sam "The Boss"

- I'd like to apologise for my behaviour and comments - I've been over-controlling, bossy, demanding, and just plain rude. My requests were unreasonable and my comments un-thought-through. So, I take back everything that I said, and I'm about to head over to the development forum and post a new topic outlining my requests and ideas for the new site (which, like everyone else's comments, will be merely suggestions this time, and not demands. I will merely be a chairman, deciding which ideas have received the most favourable responses and helping you and anybody else who wishes to help and seems to be a reasonable sane and sensible person to implement them into the site), but I'll quickly outline some of the main things I would want out of the new site and the development process:
- A rethink of the usergroups and access structure
- An entirely new set of namespaces
- Managed projects and plans even while the site is in use
- Better organisation by the developers so that they are easily reachable by email and other channels and site issues are responded to rapidly and helpfully
- More betterer planning and discussion before anything actually gets implemented into the site, and possibly even a test Wiki so that we can test our ideas and then demonstrate them to other people before implementing them into the main site.
- I'll expand more on all of this in my post, but remember that this time they're only ideas - feel free to contradict them; you run this site just as much as I do and I have absolutely no right to tell you how to do it.
- Again, I'm really sorry - I messed up. Sam "The Boss"

[comment on this] On a more serious note
I would like to request the honor of being a Founder. I realize that this doesn't give me any other powers, but I am the highest high-contribution user on the site, with an average of 11.4 edits per day, and a grand total of 4,751 contributions to date, which is the highest number out of all users as per my research, as well as the fact that when I got here, the BB project had just started and we hardly had anything. Since then, I have created nearly countless pages (but I'm sure one of you has a way of counting it) and have been a key factor in many of the site's most visible changes (logo, colors, etc.). I formally declare that this is an official statement and I am making it with a sound mind and benign intent. —Supuhstar*
04:47, 26 June 2008 (CEST)
I think "Founder" is for people who were there when the site started, but I'll talk to Sam about that. (I'll give you the benfit of the doubt for now since you could argue the site hadn't really started then.)As for new pages by you, Im checking the database. This isn't really very accurate but you've made at least 342 new pages. The reason I can't tell you exactly is, pretty much, that MySQL is rubbish, and I could use some PHP but I don't have the time... -EdK (email) 19:08, 26 July 2008 (CEST)- Oops, my bad, you already are one.

The file is 12.5 KB.
Can you host it please? Thanks. Goldpearl 22:58, 28 July 2008 (CEST)

- I don't know. Sam's applying for Oxford which doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't give a fuck. It may just be he's too busy. I'll have to ask him. -EdK (email) 16:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
